Wet, wetter, wettest
« Memorial Day Moose | A summer morning in July »

This is the wettest week we have seen so far this early summer. Early morning wake up coffee listening to Eli and Robin on WELY (our great local radio station) we all share the same sentiments: yes, we are happy for the lack of forest fire danger, happy for the water to restore the lake levels to more normal conditions: but we are ready to dry out.
This weeks guests all are cheery, optimistic and ‘get out there and enjoy it all’ despite the conditions. Yesterday morning saw guests getting on the water in the fun hydro bikes as well as fishing, others departed for the Hegman Lake pictograph experience, some off to visit the International Wolf Center as well as the North American Bear Center. In the afternoon we arranged a tour of Listening Point. The weather was drippy and still they departed with umbrella’s and rain gear and enjoyed seeing and learning more about Sigurd Olson. We admire their spirit to enjoy all that there is to do. All of these experiences add up to why Ely earned the recent title of “Coolest Small Town in America’.
On a simple side note: forgot to mention that early in May we saw the robin build a nest directly above the entrance to The Lodge; (actually she built two nests). For the last two years she built a nest in Cabin # 19 directly across from the main lodge to the interest of those cabin guests. We were surprised that she chose this spot which has much more traffic; but it has been fun to watch and be a part of this experience. On Monday the eggs hatched: and now we have three babies. It’s interesting to see how visitors departing the lodge have caught sight of the nest and now come to see the newest development. A fun ... all natural experience to be a part of.
