A moose, maybe two

July 16, 2010

A Moose .... maybe two .... right here on the Burntside swimming beach.

Long time guests in Cabin # 2 (this cabin sits right over the water at the beach) shared their Tuesday morning excitement with us at the front desk.

At about 7 am Chris looked out the window and much to his amazement saw a baby moose swimming in front of the cabin.  Chris has a passion for photography and had his camera setting on the kitchen table.  On the quick of the moment he decided to ‘go for’ his more elaborate lens and didn’t opt to take an immediate photo through the window glass, unfortunately.  He went for his more sophisticated lens only to find that he was also missing his battery.  His wife, Stephanie watched as the moose exited the lake right at the edge of the beach ramp and went up into the woods (perhaps passing by Cabin #6 and # 7) to disappear.  Chris attempted to follow; but the moose must have sensed the urgency of leaving and was never seen again.

Now we all wait and hope for the moose to return....definitely added to excitement at the lodge this week.

Summer Pleasures

It is the simple things that often mean the most:

a hug from the one you love
the smell of fresh bread baking in the oven
the wind blowing through the air

For me today it was the opportunity to walk home in the midst of a summer afternoon and pick a handful of warm from the sun, wild raspberries that tasted summer sweet.

The berries are bountiful, benefiting from our almost daily burst of rain.  Raspberries and blueberries; fat and plump ... tasty morsels without the worry of chemicals and the need to wash before indulging.
